Do you do group classes?
No, I choose to do one-to-one lessons. I used to host group workshops years ago and, whilst I loved them, I found them much less effective than individual lessons. I prefer to give tailored attention and focus to each student.
Do you teach siblings?
I do, but not together! I find siblings can be super competitive and they're often very different. The siblings I teach have their own lessons - they either alternate and each have two lessons per month, or they have separate lessons entirely.
How long are the lessons?
Each lesson is one hour, however I can sometimes cater for double lessons if pre-arranged or during school holidays.
What's your cancellation policy?
I ask for a minimum of 24 hours notice if you wish to cancel or rearrange a lesson. If less than 24 hours notice is provided, you are required to pay 100% of the lesson fee. If notice is provided, I can sometimes offer an alternative lesson slot for that week, but this is not guaranteed. I generally try and do everything possible to help!
Are you an Art Therapist?
No, I'm not. I have a place to study for a Masters in Art Therapy but I haven't been able to commit to it due to my disability and other health issues. So, whilst my art lessons are 'therapeutic', they are not Art Therapy. I'm hoping that at some point in the future I can do the MA!
Where are your art studios based?
I have two studios, one in Newport Shropshire and one in Stafford.
Do you provide the art materials?
Yes, I provide everything. I absolutely love buying new and exciting art materials. If there's something very specific a student wishes to use I can provide this too. Sometimes, students prefer to bring their own paint sets as they're used to them and like to stick with what's familiar, but this is totally their choice.
What art styles and techniques do you cover?
We do so much! Watercolours, illustration, clay, digital art, still life/observation drawing, landscape study, portraiture, animal portraiture, mark-making...but this list is absolutely not exhaustive Lessons are very much dictated by students, and I provide them with the skills, techniques and assistance!
Do you offer virtual/remote lessons?
I do, this enables me to teach children who aren't local! Virtual lessons can be held either via Teams or video call.
What's the youngest age you have worked with?
Three! However, a lot of my students start at around six years old, which I think is a great age to begin art lessons, the younger the student the less scared they seem to be of trying new artistic techniques!
Are you DBS checked?
Yes, I have both a basic and an enhanced DBS check.
Can parents stay and observe the lessons?
Of course, you're more than welcome to sit in and watch! However, I have found that every single child works much better when their parents aren't there!
Do you take photographs of the children during their lessons?
I always ask for the permission or the parents/guardians before any photos are taken. I always ask whether I have permission to share photos and/or the name of their child on social media/my website. Some parents/guardians don't wish to have photos of their child posted online, so I'll just photograph their work (or their hands doing the work!). Furthermore, I am always careful to ensure that school uniforms/badges are not on view in the photos so as to further protect the child.
Do you work with children that have disabilities and/or additional support needs?
This is always case-dependant as I am not trained specifically to work with children that have additional needs, and the child's safety is of upmost importance. Please speak to me directly if you have any queries surrounding this.
